FAQ

1. What is IBPS?

IBPS is the acronym for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, which is the the apex body for recruitment, promotion and placement services in Indian public sector undertaking (PSU) banks. Founded in 1975 as a unit of National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), it became an autonomous body in 1984 at the behest of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

2. Am I eligible to take up IBPS PO (Probationary Officer) exam?

Your minimum age has to be 20 and max 30 (as of July 1, 2016). A candidate must have been born not earlier than 02.07.1986 and not later than 01.07.1996

3. What is the Educational qualification required?

A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Govt. Of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

4. What is the exam pattern?

The exam is divided into 2 stages:

a. Preliminary Exam

Total time of 60 minutes will be given to the candidate with the following sections:

There is individual cut-off marks for each section. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

5. What is the syllabus?

  • English language - Reading comprehension, fill in the blanks, Synonyms, Antonyms, Error identification, Paragraph jumbling are some of the key sections that a candidate needs to prepare on

  • Quantitative aptitude - Basic mathematics topics like Number system, time-speed & distance, time & work, probability, geometry, data interpretation, percentages etc

  • Reasoning Ability - Seating arrangement based problems, direction, blood relations and other verbal & non-verbal logical reasoning questions

  • Computers - General understanding of hardware, software, networking, Internet etc., will be evaluated

  • General/Economy/Banking Awareness - Candidates understanding on general knowledge and current events will be tested in this section
